A brand new original musical, written, composed and produced by young people from the Isle of Wight, is set to bring the stage at Brading New Town Hall back to life this August as the Bullring Theatre presents Lovestruck Alley.
The production marks a major milestone for the venue, becoming the first full-scale theatrical production to be staged in Brading New Town Hall for five years. Audiences will be able to enjoy the performance completely free of charge as part of an ongoing commitment to making the arts accessible to everyone in the community.
Lovestruck Alley is a brand new musical set in a fading 1980s bowling alley that finds itself under threat of demolition. Packed with original songs, larger-than-life characters, comedy, romance and plenty of heart, the story celebrates friendship, first love, finding your place and standing up for the things worth saving.
The show has been developed through the Brading Community Performing Arts Programme, a partnership between Brading Town Council and Tide Nor Time Players CIC. Throughout the project, young performers have worked together to shape the production, helping to develop characters, scenes, choreography and performance while learning every aspect of creating an original piece of musical theatre.
Lovestruck Alley is not an adaptation of an existing musical, it's a completely original work, giving the young company the opportunity to create something that belongs to them and to Brading.
The production is the latest step in the redevelopment of Brading New Town Hall as a community performance venue. Since the launch of the Bullring Theatre project, improvements have been made to the stage, lighting and technical facilities, creating a dedicated space where local people can perform, learn and enjoy live theatre once again.

“One of our ambitions has always been to create opportunities for young people to make original theatre. Lovestruck Alley is the result of months of creativity, hard work and collaboration. The cast have helped bring these characters to life and have been involved throughout the creative process.”
The performance forms part of the Brading Community Performing Arts Programme, which aims to provide affordable and accessible opportunities for young people to develop confidence, creativity and practical theatre skills while creating high quality productions for local audiences.
The performance is free to attend, with donations for the group being taken on the night. Tickets need to be booked in advanced, as seating is limited
